Sandpiper face-off

If you spend much time at the beach, you are likely to see lots of different sandpipers, the tiny birds that search for food along the shorelines. I often enjoy watching the tiny, but quick, little sanderlings that chase the waves. They have the speediest little legs I have ever seen.

Although they associate in dense flocks, they are are also quite feisty when patrolling the shoreline. The two in this picture had an epic battle after this face-off. No injuries. One stayed. One flew away several yards down the beach. I captured a few more pictures of the encounter and may create a collage later.
